Welcome to Year 5

In Year 5, we develop greater independence to ensure each child understands how they learn best to help them to become aspirational and curious learners.

In maths, we continue to develop our fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills, building on the foundations we have developed in previous year groups. There is a strong focus on the childrens’ mental arithmetic skills. Our English lessons focus on a wide range of vocabulary-rich texts which give children opportunities to write in a range of styles, using increasingly sophisticated language, grammar and punctuation. In science, we explore living things and their habitats; earth and space, forces, properties and changes of material;, animals, including humans, as well as scientists and inventors.
